Rate My Artist Residency (RMAR) is an independent directory and review platform for artist residency programs worldwide. This page explains how listings appear on the platform, how programs can manage their information, and how we handle removal requests.
RMAR is an interactive computer service as defined under Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act. We are not liable for content posted by third-party users or contributors to the platform.
Listings on RMAR are compiled from publicly available sources: program websites, open call announcements, arts council directories, and community submissions. No authorization from the listed program is required to create a listing, just as restaurant review sites do not need permission from restaurants to list them.
All listings go through an internal review before being published. We aim for accuracy, but we are a small team working from public information—mistakes happen, and we welcome corrections.
If you are an administrator or authorized representative of a listed program, you can claim your profile to gain access to editing tools. Claiming lets you:
To claim your profile, create an account and use the “Claim this listing” button on your program’s page. We verify claims by confirming your association with the program (typically via an email address on the program’s domain).
If any information in your listing is inaccurate—wrong location, outdated website URL, incorrect cost details—we want to fix it. You can:
Corrections to factual information are always honored. We typically process them within a few business days.
RMAR operates as a review and information platform, similar in principle to Glassdoor, Yelp, TripAdvisor, and Google Reviews. Listing a program on our platform constitutes nominative fair use—we use the program’s name to identify it accurately in the context of factual information and community reviews.
Our general position is that public programs are part of the public conversation. Artists have a legitimate interest in accessing honest, independent information about programs they are considering, including reviews from other artists. Removing a listing removes that resource from the community.
That said, we are not inflexible. We evaluate removal requests on a case-by-case basis and may honor them when:
We do not remove listings simply because a program prefers not to be reviewed, or because a review is negative. Honest reviews—positive and negative—are the foundation of this platform’s value to the artist community.
When a listing for a permanently closed program is removed, associated reviews are also removed from public view. RMAR may retain listing and review data internally for record-keeping and platform integrity purposes, even after public removal.
Reviews on RMAR are written by artists who have direct experience with a program. We have community guidelines in place to ensure reviews are constructive and relevant. We do not edit or censor reviews based on sentiment, but we will remove reviews that violate our guidelines (e.g., personal attacks, factually false claims, spam).
Programs that have claimed their profile can flag a review for admin attention if they believe it violates our guidelines.
If your review is removed and you believe this was in error, you may request a review of that decision by emailing kn@studiostudios.net with the subject line “Review Appeal” and a description of your concern. We evaluate appeals on a case-by-case basis.
When a review is flagged as factually false, RMAR evaluates the claim against our Community Guidelines. We do not make independent factual findings or act as an arbiter of disputed experiences. We will remove content that clearly violates our guidelines, but we do not remove reviews simply because a program disputes their characterization.
For corrections, profile claims, or removal requests, please email:
Please include the name of the program, the URL of the listing on our site, your role at the program, and a description of what you are requesting. We aim to respond to all inquiries within 3 business days and to resolve requests within one week.
