MacDowell, Yaddo, and Civitella Ranieri are the most prestigious. Hedgebrook is the leading women-only writers' residency. Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown runs a 7-month writing fellowship that's career-changing for early-career writers. Vermont Studio Center has shorter formats and lower acceptance pressure.
