Casa Wabi is a Tadao Ando-designed arts foundation on the Pacific coast of Oaxaca. The concrete-and-palm compound sits between ocean and jungle, built to foster dialogue between artists and the surrounding Mixtec community. Residents live in minimalist beachfront studios and participate in community engagement projects — collaborating with local schools, cooperatives, and artisan groups. The program is fully funded: housing, meals, studio, and a production budget. Founded by artist Bosco Sodi in 2014.

Fall 2026 Residency
22d left4–6 week residency at Tadao Ando's beachfront compound on the Oaxacan coast. Housing, meals, studio, and production budget. Community engagement component required. Our residencies are mostly by invitation. We are always searching for artists whose excellence, interests, and values fit with those of Casa Wabi. A small number of residencies each year are awarded through prizes, exchanges, and collaborations. Currently these include: Three residencies awarded through an open call made in conjunction with ArtReview magazine (announced in the spring) An annual residency awarded to a woman artist included in the ZONA MACO art fair in Mexico City A residency awarded to the winner of the Venice Film Festival’s Luigi De Laurentiis” Venice Award for a Debut Film A residency awarded to the director of the Europe-Latin America Co-Production Forum or Ikusmira Berriak winning film at the San Sebastián International Film Festival.
