About this Residency

Founded in 1968 at the tip of Cape Cod, the Fine Arts Work Center awards ten writers and ten visual artists seven-month fellowships annually (October 1 through April 30). Fellows receive a $1,250 monthly stipend plus a $1,000 exit stipend, a private furnished apartment with full kitchen, and dedicated studio space. Visual arts fellows receive a solo exhibition; writing fellows give a public reading. Alumni have won Guggenheim Fellowships, MacArthur Fellowships, Pulitzer Prizes, Prix de Rome, and the Nobel Prize in Literature. Around 1,600 applicants compete for the 20 places each year.
