Sound of Resilience – A sonic exploration of belonging, memory & collective imagination
Sound of Resilience is a two-week interdisciplinary residency by SOPRA SOTTO exploring sound and music as a language beyond the intellect—an embodied expression of shared human experiences across generations and cultures.
Through music, voice, rhythm, vibration, silence, storytelling, and listening, the residency explores sound as a medium for connection, remembrance, healing, resistance, and collective imagination. It approaches sound as both an artistic medium and a social practice, investigating themes of belonging, identity, cultural resilience, emotional expression, and alternative futures.
Inspired by Sardinia’s rich sonic traditions, ancient practices of song, and the island’s layered cultural histories, the residency invites participants to explore intuitive, sensory, and non-linear forms of communication and knowledge.
WHAT
The residency is a process-based, communal, and co-created experience. Rather than focusing on finished outcomes, it prioritises experimentation, exchange, and collective learning.
A group of 6–8 interdisciplinary residents will share daily life in a rustic farmhouse in the Gallura hills, with a programme shaped through workshops by and for residents. Activities may include listening sessions, sound experiments, performances, movement, field recording, storytelling, rituals, discussions, walks, and collaborative making.
The residency combines communal living, shared meals, individual practice, immersion in nature, and exploration of Sardinia’s landscapes, communities, and cultural traditions.
WHO
The residency is open to musicians, sound artists, filmmakers, writers, performers, researchers, educators, curators, activists, healers, and interdisciplinary creatives.
We welcome practices including experimental and electronic sound, traditional and folkloric vocal practices, communal singing, field recording, dance, performance, film, writing, poetry, research, social practice, healing practices, activism, and any work where sound intersects with other artistic forms.
