Founded in 1946, Skowhegan is a nine-week intensive summer residency on 350 acres near Lake Wesserunsett in rural Maine (mid-June to mid-August). Sixty-five emerging artists live as a community of peers, participating in workshops, studio visits, lectures, and performances with both resident and visiting faculty in a self-directed learning environment. Despite its name, all disciplines are welcome. Facilities include metal, wood, textile, and ceramics fabrication shops, a media lab, and one of the last active fresco studios in the United States. Tuition is $6,000 with financial aid available; financial circumstances are not considered during admissions. Selected from 2,000+ annual applicants.
