Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts

Founded in 1945 in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, Arrowmont is one of the country's most established craft schools, with intensive workshops, a year-round Artist-in-Residence program (one- and two-year residencies for five emerging artists), and the long-running Pentaculum gathering. The 14-acre Gatlinburg campus has dedicated studios for ceramics, fibers, metals, wood, drawing/painting, glass, and book arts; the AIR program provides private studio, housing, monthly stipend, and access to faculty + visiting artist critique. Acceptance is competitive; cohorts share the campus with workshop students, so the social orbit is communal and busy.
